Sit back and enjoy this interesting chat between Equitopia podcaster Kaylie Hanson, and Jennifer Postollec. Jennifer talks about her work as an equine manual therapist and offers some tips that people can do to improve the health and soundness of their horse.
Here’s a short snippet of the conversation.
Kaylie asks Jennifer what are some of the most common things she treats in horses:
“Sadly, gastric issues. Because, as I said, it can be due to an emotional imbalance in the horse. It can be due to the pectoral muscle, it can be due to the girth, the feed, or the lifestyle of the horse. So this is what what I see the most. And the second one – I would say is tension in the poll – So C zero C1. This is what I see.
Kaylie asked about any internal organ issues that might create asymmetries and body posture issues:
Ovaries can be a huge problem. The ovaries are located under the first lumbar – this can result in sharp pain. They can have just say a PSA cyst on the ovaries or it can also be just a restriction of mobility which can be really painful for the mare. So I wouldn’t say it can cause saddle slip but the whole thing wouldn’t be very symmetrical. That’s for sure.
Kaylie: Could that create a slight pelvic tilt?
Jennifer: Yes, definitely. Yes. Okay. Absolutely.
Kaylie: And then restriction in the lumbar.
Jennifer : Exactly. And the sacrum area as well, depending on the the axis, obviously, depending on the ovary, which is impacted.
